     Alexander Mair was born on 25 September 1866 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1,2 He was the son of Alexander Mair and Georgina Mair. His family was known by the tee-name of "Shavie".
He was listed as head of household's son in the 1871 census at 134 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: Alex Mair, head; Georgia (sic) Mair, wife; John Mair, son; Jean (sic) Mair, daughter; Elsbet (sic) Mair, daughter; Ann Mair, daughter; Alex Mair, son; James Mair, son.3

Alexander Mair was a fisherman. He served in the crew of the Zulu fishing boat 'Evangeline' BF 1952. He married Barbara Ann Masson at Seafield Church, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 14 September 1894.5,2 He was the informant for Helen Mair's birth at 187 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 14 April 1899.6,2

He perished with the Portknockie Zulu fishing boat 'Evangeline' BF 1952 that was wrecked off Stronsay during a great storm. The entire crew was lost. His body was not recovered.
