Welcome to the website of Neil Pirie. I now live in Shropshire, England, although previously I lived in Hampshire, Kent and Surrey.
What do I do? Well, I am Civil Servant: Head of Data and Information Governance in the Digital & Technology Group at the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency in London. You can find out more on my LinkedIn profile.
In my spare time I am a bellringer, and I ring st St. Laurence's Church, Ludlow, where we have a fine ring of 10 bells.
I also still occasionally run for health and fitness. I may not be the fastest but I hold my own and have enjoyed participating in races. You can find out more on my Running page.
For several years I helped Bohunt School, Liphook, with their Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze and Silver Award expeditions. This prompted me to bag some mountains and generally explore more. You can see my photos of various trips and expeditions on my Expeditions page.
Research on our family history was initiated by my brother, Cameron, in 1998; well before the BBC TV series 'Who do you think you are?' started the national craze for researching your roots. With plenty of leave to take from work I was able join in and spend time in archives in Scotland and Norfolk searching out documentary evidence.
We've also been contacted by many researching their family history, including a number of cousins who have then made contributions to the site. Have a look at the Family History pages to see the fruits of many hours of research.
