William Mair "Bobbin" was co-owner of a Zulu fishing boat built by Stevenson & Asher at Banff and launched on early in 1897, named 'Palestine' and registered BF 1991.
On 11 November 1899, the Portknockie fishing boat 'Palestine' BF 1991, which had been herring fishing out of Lowestoft for the past four weeks, was wrecked on Cockle Sands at the entrance to Yarmouth Roads during a fierce southerly gale. The Caister lifeboat 'Beauchamp' was launched and with great difficulty rescued the whole crew, including skipper William Mair "Bobbin", before 'Palestine' disappeared below the waves.
