George Pirie

     George Pirie was born in July 1821 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1,2 He was the son of George Pirie and Helen Thain. George Pirie was baptized on 18 July 1821 at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.1 His family was known by the tee-name of "Dodle". He was a fisherman. He was the skipper of the fishing boat 'Vigilant.' He married Margaret Mair at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 27 June 1854.3,2 He was the informant for, and present at, George Pirie's birth at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 18 March 1856.4,5 He was the informant for, and present at, John Pirie's birth at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 18 March 1856.6,7 He was the informant for, and present at, George Pirie's death at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 24 March 1856.8 George died on 23 November 1857 at sea, off Scar Nose, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 36. He perished with the Portknockie fishing boat 'Vigilant' off Scar Nose, Portknockie during a storm. The entire crew was lost. They were George Pirie "Dodle" (skipper), John Wood "Deacon", James Mair "Bids", John Mair "Bids", James Mair "Pundlar", John Mair, John Innes, William Mair "Howdie", William Wood "Post".9,2 He was buried after 8 December 1857 at Cullen Old Kirkyard, Old Church Road, Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.9
