He married Barbara Stephenson at Parish of Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on 18 December 1851.1 He married Margaret Cheyne at Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on 27 November 1864.1 James died on 6 July 1900 at Dalrymple Café, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1
