The crew were in the water for over two hours clinging to buoys and oars before a rescue boat reached them. Five of the crew were rescued but James Pirie, son of the skipper, was lost. He was the informant for, and present at, James Pirie's death at at sea in the Pentland Firth on 24 June 1887.18,19,10
