His family was known by the tee-name of "Gault". John Mair was a fisherman. He married Jessie Ann Wilson at 18 Scotstown, Banff, Banffshire, Scotland, on 17 April 1896.3 He was the informant for Margaret Mair "Gault"'s birth at 41 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 10 September 1896.4,2 He was the informant for John Mair's birth at 42 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 26 January 1902.5,2 John died on 30 September 1905 at Grimsby Harbour, Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England, at age 34. He worked on Portknockie boat 'Sardius' and was knocked overboard and drowned while entering Grimsby harbour.2
