     Sarah Cribes Pirie was born illegitimate on 26 September 1927 at 23 High Street, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1,2 She was the daughter of Sarah Cribes Pirie. Her family was known by the tee-name of "Buxer". Sarah Cribes Pirie was a shop assistant. She married Joseph Mair Farquhar at North Church Manse, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 8 March 1944.3,4 As of 8 March 1944, her married name was Sarah Cribes Farquhar. Sarah Cribes Farquhar was the Mayoress of Oldham in 1995-6 while her son, Joe, was Mayor. He said, “As a bachelor, I needed a Mayoress and my mother stepped in and did an amazing job. With her gift for meeting people and being at ease with everyone, she was a natural”.5 Sarah died on 31 March 2015 at Oldham, Greater Manchester, England, at age 87.6 Her body was cremated on 17 April 2015 at Hollinwood Crematorium, Roman Road, Oldham, Greater Manchester, England.6
