James Clarence Alexander Pirie (1922-1999)
     James Clarence Alexander Pirie was born on 7 February 1922 at 28 Seafield Street, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of Alexander Pirie and Margaret Mair. James Clarence Alexander Pirie was known as "Jimmy". Davie Mair and others in Portknockie knew him as "Jimmy Clarence." James Clarence Alexander Pirie was a seaman in the Merchant Navy. Ships on which he served include the oil tankers 'British Ambassedor' and 'British Advocate.' James died on 26 March 1999 at Dr. Gray's Hospital, Elgin, Moray, Scotland, at age 77. His body was interred on 30 March 1999 at Portknockie, Moray, Scotland, at Lair No. 1570, Hillhead cemetery. A funeral service for James Pirie was held at William R. Mair's Chapel, Newlands Lane, Buckie on Tuesday 30th March at 2pm, followed by the burial at Hillhead Cemetery. Attendees included Ian and Daphne Pirie, Cathy Watt, Neil, Rachel and Alexander Pirie, Cameron Pirie, Allister Pirie, and Anne Mair. Neil Alexander Pirie was a coffin bearer and took cord 1 at the head of the coffin to lower it in to the lair.2,3
