Haylock Lanchester

F, #789, b. 16 October 1837, d. 31 July 1921
Haylock Lanchester was born on 16 October 1837 at Fersfield, Norfolk, England.1,2 She was the daughter of John Lanchester and Martha Mison.
She was listed as a member of the household in the 1841 census at Thwaite Green, Fersfield, Norfolk, England. Those recorded in the household were: John Lanchester, 30; Martha Lanchester, 30; Sophia Maria Lanchester, 9; Walter Lanchester, 7; Haylock Lanchester, 3; Henry Lanchester, 1.3

She was listed as head of household's daughter in the 1851 census at Dam Green, Kenninghall, Norfolk, England. Those recorded in the household were: John Lankaster (sic), head; Martha Lankaster (sic), wife; Walter Lankaster (sic), son; Haylock Lankaster (sic), daughter; Henry Lankaster (sic), son; Feargus O'Connor Lankaster (sic), son.4
Her name changed to Haylock Breakspeare. Haylock began using the surname Breakspeare in place of Lanchester. It appears that she bore a son before her relationship with William Bursill, as the registration of her death shows the informant as F Breakspear, son. The surname could have been taken from the father of this child. In the registration of her subsequent marriage to William Bursill, the surname recorded for both her and her father is Breakspeare, and her status is recorded as spinster. It is therefore assumed that she did not change her surname to Breakspeare through marriage.

She was listed as head of household's wife in the 1881 census at 214 Arlington Road, Middlesex, England. Those recorded in the household were: William Bursill, head; Hazlock (sic) Bursill, wife; Florence Bursill, daughter; James Bursill, son.5
She married William Bursill at St Pancras, Middlesex, England, on 19 June 1882.6,2 As of 19 June 1882, her married name was Haylock Bursill. Haylock died on 31 July 1921 at Norfolk, England, at age 83.7,2
