     James Sutherland was born on 25 September 1895 at Findochty, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of James Sutherland and Ann Smith. His family was known by the tee-name of "Do" or "Doh". James Sutherland was a fisherman. He married Margaret Flett at Findochty, Banffshire, Scotland, on 12 January 1922.1
