     John Mair was born circa 1853 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of James Mair and Mary Wood. His family was known by the tee-name of "Mull" or "Bobbin". According to Edgar Donaldson Mair, the Tee-name was actually "Mull", but often "Bobbin" was used instead. The name John Mair "Bobbin" was recorded in the registration of marriage of his daughter Margaret in 1907.2
