Mary Anne Pirie was born in 1916 at Seafield, Banffshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of David Pirie and Catherine Wood. Her family was known by the tee-name of "Darling". She married Alexander Crawford Hay at Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland, in 1944.1 As of 1944, her married name was Mary Anne Hay. Mary died on 19 July 1955 at Aberdeen, Scotland.2 She was buried after 19 July 1955 at Hillhead Cemetery, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.2
