     Helen Sclater was born on 3 December 1863 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1 She was the daughter of William Sclater and Mary Wilson. Her family was known by the tee-name of "Duncan".
She was listed as head of household's daughter in the 1871 census at 199 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.
