     Mary was born at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 10 October 1854.1 She was the daughter of James Mair and Mary Wood. Mary Ann Mair was baptized on 5 January 1855 at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.1 Her family was known by the tee-name of "Bobbin".
