Catherine Cowie was born circa 1843 at Buckie, Banffshire, Scotland.1 She was the daughter of Alexander Cowie and Ann Pirie. Her family was known by the tee-name of "Diddle". She married Alexander Smith at Buckie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 19 October 1866.2,1 As of 19 October 1866, her married name was Catherine Smith. Catherine died in 1874 at Rathven, Banffshire, Scotland.3
