William Pirie

William Pirie was born on 26 June 1853 at Fordyce, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of John Pirie and Ann Murray. William Pirie was baptized in July 1853 at Parish of Fordyce, Banffshire, Scotland.1
He was listed as head of household's son in the 1861 census at Seatown, Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: John Pirrie, 48; Ann Pirrie, 46; Mary Pirrie, 17; George Pirrie, 12; William Pirrie, 9; James Pirrie, 6.2
He was a fisherman. He married Jane Gardiner at Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland, on 11 October 1872.3 He was the informant for, and present at, Alexander Jones Pirie's birth at Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on 27 August 1873.4,5 William died on 20 January 1887 at sea about thirty miles off Kinnaird Head, Fraserburgh, Scotland, at age 33. He perished with the Portsoy fishing boat 'Annie' that was in a collision with a steam trawler and sank. The entire crew was lost.6,7
