John Mair

M, #3846, b. 22 June 1864, d. 19 October 1935
John Mair was born on 22 June 1864 at Parish of Seafield, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of John Mair and Helen Sutherland. His family was known by the tee-name of "Johns". John Mair was a fisherman. He married Catherine Wood at Shorehead, Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland, on 7 December 1888.2,3
He was listed as head of household in the 1891 census at New Street, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: John Mair, head; Catherine Wood Mair, wife; George Mair, son; Mary Mair, servant.4

He was listed as head of household's brother in the 1921 census at 25 Sawyer Road, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Those recorded in the household were: Thomas Mair, head; Jessie Mair, wife; Ruth Mair, daughter; John Mair, son; Maggie Mair, daughter; Grace Mair, daughter; Willie Mair, son; George Mair, son; John Mair, brother.5,3
John died on 19 October 1935 at Campbell Home, Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 71. It is likely that the informant for his death was in error by stating that John was the widower of Isabella Reid. Isabella Wood "Reid" née Sinclair was John's mother-in-law and survived her daughter, John's wife, Catherine Wood "Reid" by 8 months.6
