William Wood was born on 11 August 1825.1 He was the son of George Wood and Helen Mair. William Wood was baptized on 15 August 1825 at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.1 His family was known by the tee-name of "Post". He was a fisherman. William died on 23 November 1857 at sea, off Scar Nose, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 32. He perished with the Portknockie fishing boat 'Vigilant' off Scar Nose, Portknockie during a storm. The entire crew were lost. They were George Pirie "Dodle" (skipper), John Wood "Deacon", James Mair "Bids", John Mair "Bids", James Mair "Pundlar", John Mair, John Innes, William Mair "Howdie", William Wood "Post".2
