     George Sclater was born on 19 January 1800 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of Alexander Sclater and Mary Wood. George Sclater was baptized on 26 January 1800 at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.1 George Sclater was also known as Slater. His family was known by the bye-name of "Doddie". He was a whitefisher and fisherman. He married Ann Wood at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland, on 24 November 1825.2
