He married Helen Bruce at Buchanhaven, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on 12 December 1889.1 James died on 19 September 1934 at Thomas Walker Hospital, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, at age 68.1
