     Janet Mair was born circa 1849 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1 She was the daughter of James Mair and Ann Falconer. Her family was known by the tee-name of "Cock".
She was listed as head of household's daughter in the 1861 census at 8 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: James Mair, head; Ann Mair, wife; Jessie Mair, daughter; James Mair, son; George Mair, son; Ann Mair, daughter; Jannet Falkner, mother-in-law.2
She married William Hay at Seatown, Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland, on 27 October 1871.3 As of 27 October 1871, her married name was Janet Hay. Janet died on 24 April 1928 at Seatown, Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.3
