She was listed as head of household's daughter in the 1861 census at Broadsea, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: Catharine Ritchie, head; Elizabeth Ritchie, daughter.3

She was listed as head of household's stepdaughter in the 1871 census at 213 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. She married John Pirie "Buxer" at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 2 October 1874.5,6 As of 2 October 1874, her married name was Elizabeth Pirie. She was the informant for Catharine Pirie's birth at 219 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 24 January 1878.7

Elizabeth died on 5 March 1893 at 218 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 36.10 She may have been buried after 5 March 1893 at Cullen Cemetery, Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland; There is doubt that Elizabeth Pirie née Ritchie was interred at the location of the monument to her in Cullen Cemetery, as set out in the letter on the search of lair records by the Assistant Registrar at Buckie.11,12

I appreciate the location and inscription of the headstone at Cullen Cemetery but this headstone does not refer to the grave of Elizabeth! I was surprised to discover that the headstone which bears the inscription "Erected by John Pirie in.......etc" actually rests on lair numbers G137 and G138 the graves of John "Buxer" Pirie (and then "King") d:1900 and Helen Wood. Was Elizabeth interred here? I am afraid not, both registrars and burial ground registers are identical and no mention of any other burial is recorded in these lairs."
