Alexander Mair

     Alexander Mair was born on 12 August 1818 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.¹ He was the son of William Mair and Margaret Smith. Alexander Mair was baptized on 16 August 1818 at Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.¹ His family was known by the tee-name of "Shavie". Alexander Mair (b.1818) was originally a Mair "Shavie", but was very cheeky as a child and so became the original Mair "Saucy."² He was a fisherman.
He was listed as a member of the household in the 1841 census at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: Margaret Mair, 45; Alexr Mair, 20; Catherine Mair, 15; John Mair, 10; Elspet Mair, 5; Ann Mair, 20.³
He married Elizabeth Wood at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland, on 8 November 1842.^4,1
