Adam Mair was born circa 1795 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland; Adam Mair's registration of death gives an incorrect age and his mother's name as Elizabeth Wood. It is suspected that he may have been born in 1795 of Marjory Wood. He was the son of John Mair and Elizabeth Wood. His family was known by the tee-name of "Big". Adam Mair was a whitefisher and fisherman. He married Janet Addison at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland, on 23 December 1819.1,2
