     Alexander Mair was born on 19 October 1887 at 29 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1,2 He was the son of David Mair and Margaret McDonald. His family was known by the tee-name of "Bobbin".

He was listed as head of household's son in the 1901 census at 83 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: David Mair, head; Margaret Mair, wife; Joseph Mair, son; Alexander Mair, son; May (sic) Mair, daughter; Agnes Mair, daughter; John Mair, son; Maggie Mair, daughter.4
Alexander Mair was a fisherman. He served in the crew of the Zulu fishing boat 'Evangeline' BF 1952. Alexander died on 17 January 1905 at sea off Griceness, Stronsay, Orkney, Scotland, at age 17. He perished with the Portknockie Zulu fishing boat 'Evangeline' BF 1952 that was wrecked off Stronsay during a great storm. The entire crew was lost.
