     Jane Chalmers was born illegitimate before 9 September 1832 at Knaven, New Deer, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 She was baptized on 9 September 1832 at Parish of New Deer, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1,2 She was the daughter of William Chalmers and Elizabeth McArthur.
She was listed as head of household's daughter-in-law in the 1861 census at Cairnorrie, Methlick, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: William Low, head; Elizabeth Low, wife; William Low, son; Jane Chalmers, daughter-in-law.3
She married William Ironside at Cairnorrie, Methlick, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on 22 May 1863.4 As of 22 May 1863, her married name was Jane Ironside.
