     George Sclater was born on 23 November 1815 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1,2 He was the son of John Sclater and Helen Imlach. George Sclater was baptized on 3 December 1815 at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.1,2 His family was known by the tee-name of "Hasser". He was a fisherman. He married Helen Mair at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 4 November 1847.3
