     John Wood was born on 6 April 1809 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of William Wood and Catherine Mair. John Wood was baptized on 9 April 1809 at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.1 His family was known by the tee-name of "Doo". He was a mason, fisherman and whitefisher. He married Ann Mair at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland. Three marriages were registered in the Parish of Cullen between a John Wood and an Ann Mair, both in Portknockie, in the years 1831, 1832 and 1834.
